THE ISLE
Two lovers sitting up on a desert hill
The ground under their feet takes off and,
Holding hands, they see how the world will end
Holding hands, they stay still now
Wondering if they'll live or die
In those swarming lands
All the diffuse time he spends
To finally see that he’s lost again
Wandering like a ghost
Like a helpless host
How could he’ve been so stupid?
How could this happen and why?
Finally he sees
That he’ll never find the keys
They leave the door open to his doom
Dashed Hope they forswear
In this place of great despair
To be alive or to be dead under this shroud of blare
In the wasteland
Remember the girl
Try to remember
In the wasteland
Look inside your tired mind,
see if you can still cry
Without knowing why
Among the creatures passing by
He starts to see her face again
A whisper in the air
Reminds him of a prayer
That she sang alone in the wood
That they only both understood
In the wasteland
Remember the girl
Try to remember
In the wasteland
She smiles down at you,
now it is time to go back home
Can you hear the beautiful song
Of the nightingale?
Back to the place where you belong
We will have to sail
Can you hear the beautiful song
Of the nightingale?
Back to the place where you belong
We will have to sail
You will have to sail
Upon the raging sea
Gliding towards their destiny
As warming divine tears
The waves are taking away the fears
Can you see the shoreline is now rising?
Can you hear the beautiful song
Of the nightingale?
Back to the place where you belong
We will have to sail
Can you hear the beautiful song
Of the nightingale?
Back to the place where you belong
We will have to sail
Where you belong
Welcome back home
Where have they gone?
Are we alone on this giant stone
For eternity?
And she takes him by the hand
Oh and they realize
They just have to close their eyes
In one same dream to run
Two lovers sitting up on a desert hill
The ground under their feet takes off and,
Holding hands, they see how the world will end
Holding hands, they stay still now
Wondering if they'll live or die
One of the most spectacular albums I've heard since Lateralus. Amazing that this came as the output of a person grieving the loss of people whom they built lives and careers together with. The pain yet exuberance of this music is so enlivening, full of need for empathy and sympathy yet also hope and joy in carrying on to be an awakened person and express the highest good. Advosary
The Long Island metal band's third album etches arena-sized hooks into their jagged compositions, deftly balancing experimental and poppy inclinations. Bandcamp Album of the Day May 12, 2022
